FAQ TAB

Common problems and solutions with the Puretec Hybrid E7AMC UV Filtration

Why is my water still discoloured or tastes unpleasant after installation?

The Puretec Hybrid E7AMC UV Filtration includes a 10-micron dual-purpose carbon cartridge designed to improve taste, odour, and colour in rainwater. If water still tastes earthy or looks stained, it may be due to tannins, leaves, or organic matter entering the tank. Cleaning gutters, using leaf guards, and checking for tank contamination will help. If the cartridge is saturated, replacing it will restore water clarity and freshness.

Why does the UV alarm keep beeping even though the lamp looks fine?

The UV controller features a countdown timer and an alarm that signals when the lamp is nearing the end of its lifespan. Even if the light is glowing, UV intensity diminishes over time, which means replacement is necessary for continued safety. Dirty filters or a quartz sleeve with scale or sediment can also trigger alarms, as cloudy water reduces UV penetration. Cleaning and timely lamp replacement solve the issue.

Why has the water pressure dropped or the flow slowed down?

The Rainwater UV filtration system is rated for 130 L/min, but the flow can be reduced if the filters become clogged. The 5-micron washable sediment filter can be rinsed and reused to restore its performance, while the carbon cartridge may need to be replaced more frequently in dirty water conditions. Also check incoming pressure and pipe sizing — the system requires a minimum of 300 kPa.

Can the Puretec E7AMC treat bore water as well as rainwater?

This system is designed for rainwater and tank water. It can also be used on bore water, but only if pre-treatment is in place for iron, hardness, or other minerals. Without this, filters may clog rapidly, and the effectiveness of UV may drop. A water test is recommended if using anything other than clean rainwater.

What happens to water safety in a power outage?

UV disinfection requires electricity. During a power cut, the UV lamp turns off, meaning bacteria and viruses are no longer neutralised. The filtration stages will still remove sediment and chlorine; however, a temporary pause in microbiological protection is in effect. For uninterrupted safety, consider a backup power source if outages are common in your area.
