We work out the simplest way for your supply to comply: a full plan under the Quality Assurance Rules or an Acceptable Solution.

Treatment upgrades
If your treatment doesn’t meet the rules, our plumbers install or upgrade your filtration and UV disinfection.

We write your Drinking Water Safety Plan in plain language, with the check sheets and maintenance schedule your team needs.

Register your supply
We register your supply with the Water Services Authority (Taumata Arowai) and submit your plan on your behalf.

How much does a Drinking Water Safety Plan cost?
It depends on the size of your supply and how much treatment and testing it needs. We start with a free onsite visit, then give you a clear quote before any work starts.
How long does it take to write a Drinking Water Safety Plan?
It depends on your supply and whether your treatment needs upgrading. Once we’ve visited and tested your water, we’ll give you a timeframe.
Do I need a Drinking Water Safety Plan if my supply serves 25 or fewer people?
No. Since August 2025, supplies serving 25 or fewer people don’t need a plan. A business or community supply still needs to register by November 2028. Our Drinking Water Safety Plan guide explains who needs one.
Is your team qualified to write Drinking Water Safety Plans?
Yes. Four of our team have passed the NZQA course on writing Drinking Water Safety Plans, and four have passed the NZQA small drinking water supplies course. We’ve written plans for water carriers and small suppliers since the Water Services Act began.
Can Aqua Works register my drinking water supply for me?
Yes. We register your supply with the Water Services Authority (Taumata Arowai) and submit your plan on your behalf.
Can Aqua Works be our drinking water operator?
Yes. We can act as your water operator, looking after your treatment, testing and records so your supply stays compliant.
What if my water treatment doesn’t meet the drinking water rules?
We’ll tell you what needs adding or upgrading, such as filtration or UV disinfection, and our plumbers can install it.
Can Aqua Works review my existing Drinking Water Safety Plan?
Yes. We can check your plan is up to date with the 2025 changes and ready for your next re-registration, which happens every five years.
Is a Water Safety Plan the same as a Drinking Water Safety Plan?
Yes. “Drinking Water Safety Plan” is the name used in the Water Services Act 2021. Older guidance called them Water Safety Plans. See our guide to New Zealand drinking water regulations for the bigger picture.
Does Aqua Works write Drinking Water Safety Plans outside Rodney?
