What types of water tanks do we install?
The right water tank depends on how much water you need to store, the space available on your property, site access and how the tank will connect to your existing water system.
Rainwater Tanks NZ
The best rainwater tank isn’t simply the biggest or cheapest option. It needs to suit your property, water needs and the system it will become part of.
Aqua Works works with trusted New Zealand suppliers and quality tank manufacturers, with a focus on durability, reliability and long-term performance. We recommend tanks we are confident installing and connecting into our customers’ water systems, so your setup is practical, dependable and easy to live with for years to come.
Plastic Water Tanks
Plastic or polyethylene water tanks are a popular choice for rainwater storage and are available in a wide range of capacities, shapes and colours. They’re relatively lightweight, making them suitable for many residential, lifestyle and rural properties.
We can prepare the tank site, coordinate placement and connect the new tank to your plumbing, pump and filtration system.
Concrete Water Tanks
Concrete tanks provide robust, high-capacity water storage and can be a good option where durability and long-term water storage are priorities.
Because of their weight and installation requirements, good site preparation and access are particularly important. Aqua Works can assess the site, coordinate the installation and complete the plumbing and pump connections.
Slimline Water Tanks
Slimline tanks are designed for properties where space is limited. Their narrow profile allows them to fit alongside buildings, fences or other areas where a traditional round tank may not be practical.
They can be used as the main storage solution in some situations or to add extra capacity to an existing water system.
Small & Compact Water Tanks
Not every property needs a large water tank. Smaller tanks can be useful for supplementary rainwater storage, garden use or properties where available space is limited.
We’ll consider what you want to use the water for and how the tank needs to connect to your existing system before recommending a suitable option.
Underground Water Tanks
Underground tanks keep valuable outdoor space available and minimise the visual impact of water storage. They can be particularly useful where above-ground space is limited or where the design of the property makes an exposed tank undesirable.
Underground installations require careful consideration of excavation, ground conditions, access, drainage and tank specifications. We can assess the site and coordinate the work required for the installation.

Water Tank Installation
Done right from the ground up
A water tank is only as good as the system around it. The base needs to be stable and level, the tank correctly positioned, and the plumbing, overflow and pump set up to work together.
At Aqua Works, we look at the complete water system, not just where the tank will sit. Depending on your property and existing setup, we can take care of:
Site Preparation
A stable, correctly prepared base is essential for a water tank. Our team can prepare the site and tank pad, including digger work where required.
Tank Placement
We coordinate the delivery and positioning of your tank, taking access, available space and the existing property layout into account.
Plumbing & Connections
We connect the tank to your existing plumbing and rainwater system, including pipework, inlets, overflows and new pump suction lines where required.
Pumps & Water Pressure
Your tank and pump need to work together. We can install a new pump or integrate your existing pump, prime the system and check that everything is operating correctly.
Water Filtration & UV
If your tank supplies drinking water, we can connect or upgrade your filtration and UV treatment as part of the installation.

Local Jobs – Local Trust – Local Experts
Tank replacement where access wasn’t easy
Snells Beach. When a damaged water tank needed replacing, Aqua Works managed the job from start to finish. We removed and disposed of the old plastic tank, prepared the site with our digger, and coordinated with Skyworks Warkworth to lift the new tank into place by helicopter. Our plumbers then professionally connected the new tank to the existing pump and filtration system.
More water storage for a growing lifestyle block
South Head/ Hellensville. With future livestock planned, the owners of a large lifestyle property wanted to significantly increase their water storage. Aqua Works prepared the site for two new 25,000-litre plastic water tanks, then positioned and installed both tanks and connected them into the property’s existing water system, adding 50,000 litres of additional storage capacity.
From old concrete tank to new plastic storage
Matakana. When an old concrete water tank needed replacing, Aqua Works managed the complete changeover. We prepared the site for the new plastic tank, transferred the existing water from the concrete tank into the new tank, then demolished, removed and disposed of the old concrete tank. The new tank was installed and connected to the property’s existing water system.

FAQ about Water Tank Installation Service
What size water tank do I need?
The right tank size depends on your household water use, roof catchment, available space and whether rainwater is your main or supplementary water supply. We can assess your property and recommend a practical storage capacity for your needs.
How much does a water tank installation cost?
Installation costs vary depending on the tank, site access, ground preparation and the plumbing, pump or filtration work required. Our free onsite assessment allows us to look at your property and provide a clear quote for the work you actually need.
Do I need consent to install a water tank?
It depends on the tank, where it is installed and how it will be connected to your property. Some installations may require building or resource consent, particularly where the tank is connected to internal plumbing. We can advise you on the requirements relevant to your installation.
Can I add a second tank to my existing water system?
Yes. We can assess your existing tank, plumbing and pump setup and recommend the best way to add additional storage and integrate the new tank with your current system.
Can you connect a new tank to my existing pump and filtration system?
Yes. Our plumbers can connect your new or replacement tank to your existing plumbing, pump and water filtration system, or recommend upgrades where required.
What if access to my property is difficult?
Difficult access doesn’t necessarily rule out a new or replacement tank. We assess the site and look at the practical options available. Where specialist equipment is required, we can coordinate this with trusted local partners, including specialist lifting for particularly challenging sites.
Not sure what tank setup you need?
You don’t have to work it out yourself. We’ll visit your property, look at your existing setup and recommend the most practical solution for your water storage needs.
