Energy-saving small vertical pressure tanks: Reduce pump cycling for smoother, quieter operation

The Bianco pressure tank NZ stores a small reserve of water under pressure, so your pump doesn’t need to start for every minor demand. By reducing frequent stop-start cycles, it lowers energy consumption, minimises wear on the motor and pressure switch, and keeps the operation quieter. The result is steadier household pressure, increased pumping efficiency, and a longer-lasting water system with reduced maintenance requirements over time.

Versatile vertical pressure tank for domestic and lifestyle applications

Designed for cold sanitary water, these compact vessels work seamlessly with jet, multistage, centrifugal, and submersible pumps. Use them in household booster sets, lifestyle block irrigation, or even caravans and tiny homes where space is at a premium. Larger sizes in the 3–24 L range are perfect for small households, while the smallest models provide reliable support for point-of-use installations.

Bianco pump tank NZ: Choose the right size for your needs

The Bianco vertical pressure tank range is available in 3, 8, 12, 18, and 24 litre models, providing flexibility to match your system perfectly. Smaller tanks are ideal for compact pump sets, caravans, or single-point outlets where space is limited. Larger sizes give a more extended drawdown, reducing pump starts, improving efficiency, and ensuring steadier water pressure for small households, lifestyle blocks, or light-duty irrigation setups.

FAQ

Common pump problems and solutions with the Bianco domestic pressure tank 4 bar

Why is my Bianco pressure tank losing pressure?

A drop in pressure usually happens when the air cushion inside the tank decreases. This may be due to normal air loss over time, a faulty air valve, or the pre-charge not being set correctly at installation. When the air charge is too low, the pump has to run more often, which reduces system efficiency and increases wear on the pump. The fix is to fully drain the tank, then recharge it to about 2 psi below the pump’s cut-in setting. Regularly checking this helps prevent ongoing issues.

How can I tell if the bladder has failed?

A ruptured bladder is one of the most common long-term issues. When it fails, the tank becomes waterlogged and loses its ability to hold air. You’ll notice the pump cycling on and off constantly, weaker or fluctuating water pressure, and the tank feeling heavy and solid when tapped. Unfortunately, once the bladder is damaged, the tank usually needs to be replaced, as repair is not cost-effective.

Why does my pump keep switching on and off so often?

Frequent cycling, known as short cycling, is a clear sign the tank isn’t maintaining proper air pressure. This can be caused by an undercharged tank, bladder damage, or waterlogging. Short cycling not only creates poor water pressure at your taps but also significantly shortens the pump’s lifespan. Addressing this quickly helps avoid costly pump replacements.

How long will a Bianco pressure tank last?

Most Bianco tanks are designed to last between 5 and 10 years, depending on usage, installation, and water quality. The tanks are built with cold-rolled carbon steel shells and epoxy lining for durability, plus stainless steel connections to resist corrosion. However, harsh water conditions or lack of maintenance can shorten the lifespan. Keeping an eye on air charge and checking fittings regularly will extend service life.

Can a Bianco pressure tank get waterlogged?

Yes. A waterlogged tank is one that has lost its air cushion, either because the bladder has burst or the air has leaked out. This leaves the tank completely filled with water, which prevents it from storing pressure. The result is poor water flow and constant pump cycling. While sometimes recharging air can help, a ruptured bladder usually requires a tank replacement.

How do I recharge the air pressure?

Turn off your pump and open a tap until no water remains in the tank. Then, using a tyre pump and a pressure gauge, inflate the tank at the air valve until it’s set to about 2 psi lower than your pump’s cut-in pressure. For example, if your pump cuts in at 35 psi, set the pre-charge to 33 psi. This simple step keeps the pump and tank working in balance, reducing strain and extending their life.

Why is my Bianco tank leaking?

Leaks may appear at threaded connections, seals, or around the brass fittings. In many cases, resealing or tightening fittings can stop the problem. However, if the leak is coming from the steel shell itself, it means the tank body has corroded and should be replaced. Continuing to use a leaking tank can damage the pump and reduce water quality.

When should I replace my Bianco pressure tank?

If the bladder has failed, the steel body shows signs of rust or leaks, or the pump keeps short cycling even after adjustments, replacement is recommended. Using a failing tank puts unnecessary strain on your pump and can interrupt your water supply. Replacing it on time restores smooth, reliable water pressure and protects your overall system.
