What's the best water filter for tank water in New Zealand?
The right filter depends on what’s in your water. For most NZ rainwater tanks, a whole-house sediment filter combined with a UV system is the safest and most effective combination. The sediment filter removes particles, and the UV kills bacteria. We recommend getting your water tested first so you’re not over or under-treating it.
Do I need a UV filter for rainwater?
If you’re drinking from a rainwater tank, yes. UV treatment is the most reliable way to kill bacteria, including E. coli and Giardia, without adding chemicals to your water. It’s low-maintenance, has minimal running costs, and is widely used across rural Rodney. The lamp needs to be replaced annually to remain effective.

How do I know if my bore water is safe to drink?
You can’t tell from looking at it. Bore water in NZ often looks and tastes fine while carrying elevated levels of bacteria, nitrates, iron or manganese. The only way to know is a water test. We can advise on testing and, once you have results, recommend the right treatment. Don’t assume bore water is safe without testing, particularly if you have children or elderly people in the household.
