Keep your HiLo tank monitor reporting
Every HiLo and Waterwatch tank monitor runs on a single replaceable battery. HiLo gives it a life expectancy of more than 5 years, so most owners only change it a few times over the life of the monitor. When the battery gets low, the HiLo app sends you a low battery alert (when the estimated charge drops below 10%), so there's time to order a new one before the monitor stops reporting.
This is the genuine HiLo replacement battery: one D-cell, 19Ah, 3.6V lithium primary battery, packed and wired for HiLo monitors.
Which monitors does it fit?
HiLo says this battery fits all HiLo and Waterwatch monitors (HiLo was called Waterwatch before). That includes the HiLo 4G Cellular Water Tank Monitor and the HiLo Wi-Fi model.
Bought your monitor before May 2022? Older monitors need HiLo's enclosure upgrade kit to take this battery. Let us know when you order and we'll make sure the kit comes with it.
Changing the battery
You'll need a Phillips screwdriver, safe access to the top of your tank (often a ladder), and a few minutes. The box has a QR code that links to HiLo's step-by-step instructions. In short:
- open the monitor's cover on the tank roof
- unplug the old battery and plug in the new one
- put the parts back together so the seal sits properly
- screw the cover back down fully, so water and dust stay out
Then check the HiLo app over the next reporting cycle to see the monitor is sending readings again.

Can I use a standard D battery?
Use the genuine HiLo battery. It's a 3.6V lithium cell, made up for HiLo monitors, not a standard 1.5V household D battery.
Does it fit my old Waterwatch monitor?
Yes, HiLo says it fits all HiLo and Waterwatch monitors. If your monitor was bought before May 2022, it also needs HiLo's enclosure upgrade kit, so tell us when you order.
