UV Water Filter Service Helensville & Kaukapakapa
Waitoki, Wainui, Makarau and Glorit.
Safe drinking water for homes and lifestyle blocks around Helensville and Kaukapakapa
Watercare’s Helensville plant supplies the towns of Helensville and Parakai. Out of town, from Kaukapakapa and Waitoki to Wainui, Makarau and Glorit, there’s no public water supply, so homes and lifestyle blocks rely on rainwater tanks or bores. Nobody treats that water before it reaches your taps, so a UV system is your last line of defence against bacteria.
Once a year we fit a new UV lamp and new filters, clean the quartz sleeve, check the controller and sterilise the water lines. That’s our 12-month UV water filter service, backed by the Aqua Works Guarantee.
Tanks, bores and bacteria
Every shower of rain washes whatever is on your roof into the tank: bird and possum droppings, leaves and dust. Bores can pick up bacteria too, especially shallow ones near septic tanks or stock.
A UV system kills bacteria such as E. coli as the water flows past the lamp, with no chemicals and no change to the taste. It only keeps working if the lamp, sleeve and filters are looked after.

Our UV work around Kaukapakapa
Outskirts of Kaukapakapa
A Viqua UV system and twin filters we installed in August 2021, on a stainless bracket in the pump shed next to the DAB pump. The service sticker on the bracket logs each 12-month visit.
Kaukapakapa village
We look after the water treatment for the Kaukapakapa village centre, by the Gull. It runs on rain and bore water, through a multimedia filter, 5-micron filters and UV. The filters are changed and the UV sleeve cleaned every six months, with a new UV lamp every year.
UV servicing around Helensville, Kaukapakapa and Waitoki
Safe water from the tank or bore to every tap
How do you know your UV is still working?
You can’t tell by looking. The lamp keeps glowing for years, but after about 12 months it no longer puts out enough UV to be sure of killing bacteria.
Sediment and minerals also coat the quartz sleeve and block the light, and a clogged filter lets dirt shield bacteria from the UV. Bore water with iron or manganese can coat the sleeve faster.
A yearly service fixes all three, so you know the water at every tap is safe to drink.
What happens at your 12-month service
We fit a new UV lamp and new filters, take out the quartz sleeve and clean it, check the controller and your water pressure, then sterilise the water lines into the house.
The work is backed by the Aqua Works Guarantee, and we’ll get in touch when your next service comes round.

FAQ about UV Water Filter Service in Helensville and Kaukapakapa
Do homes around Helensville and Kaukapakapa need UV treatment?
If you’re on Watercare’s town supply in Helensville or Parakai, your water is already treated. Almost everywhere else around here, including Kaukapakapa, Waitoki, Wainui, Makarau and Glorit, homes rely on rainwater tanks or bores, and nobody treats that water before it reaches you.
We recommend UV on every tank or bore supply used for drinking, fitted after a sediment filter so nothing shields bacteria from the UV light.
We’re on a bore. Is UV enough?
UV kills bacteria, but it doesn’t remove iron and manganese, hardness or the other contaminants that can be in bore water, and some of those coat the UV sleeve and stop it working.
We test the water first, then design the treatment around the results. We can take a sample and have it lab tested for E. coli, total coliforms and more. To book a test, call 0800 278 296.
How often does a UV system need servicing?
Once a year. The lamp loses strength long before it stops glowing, so you can’t judge it by eye.
After your first service with us, you’re on our reminder list, so we’ll get in touch when the next one is due.
Can I service my UV system myself?
It isn’t an easy DIY job, but it can be done. Keep a spare quartz sleeve handy in case one cracks, remove the sleeve and clean it, then sterilise the UV unit and every water line afterwards. Cleaning the sleeve and sterilising the lines matter most, and they’re the steps people most often miss.
Lamps and sleeves are in our online shop. If you’d rather not, we can service it for you.
Do you service UV systems you didn’t install?
Yes. We service UV systems whoever installed them. On our Dairy Flat page you can see one in Coatesville that we didn’t install but service every year.
Which areas around Helensville and Kaukapakapa do you cover?
We service UV systems in Helensville, Kaukapakapa, Waitoki, Wainui, Makarau and Glorit.
Our base at 2 Mill Lane, Warkworth, is about 35 minutes from Kaukapakapa and about 45 minutes from Helensville. Two of our team live even closer: a service technician five minutes from Glorit, and a plumber and service technician ten minutes from Kaukapakapa.
What should we do if the UV alarm goes off?
Treat the water as unsafe until it’s fixed: boil it for drinking and cooking. The alarm usually means the lamp has reached the end of its life or the system has a fault.
Call us on 0800 278 296. We carry UV lamps, quartz sleeves and controllers in our vans, so most faults are fixed on the first visit.
